A kind of freedom where a single mom is able to bring up her child without feeling obligations to marry? A kind of freedom that no one would be restrained in pantyhose at work anymore? A kind of freedom that as a culture we are finally not tabooed to talk about sex, but does not idealize or professionalize it either? A kind of freedom that everyone would play with gender without shame, and a culture that no youth would commit suicide because of school bullying, or because they might just have a different sexual fantasy? A kind of place that no one would be afraid to walk the streets at night, where none of our body parts– our brains or our genitals –are pathologized. A kind of freedom that is multifaceted, and does not merely carve out a different shape of box to fit in a particular sexuality, but opens up the possibility to more creative desires for everyday folks.”

My homie KB was a revolutionary in 84. We met at church when we were 11 years old. He was wearing a Malcom X shirt and telling me about white supremacy. He taught me how to do the Running Man and Roger Rabbit and suggested I not call Asian people Oriental. It’s hilarious how we can look back on our friendships and see how they shaped us. At 15, he told me to read The Communist Manifesto. At 20, he turned me on to Eric Foner’s Reconstruction. It’s beautiful to me that now at 31, we are sitting in his living room, talking about language and authenticity and how people become genuinely radicalized. He identifies as a Queer Communist Militant. He works with a group called Unity and Struggle. To this day, he is one of the most well-read, hilarious and kind hearted humans I know. He writes for many blogs and websites but this is his personal blog and I just wanted to to share it with the comrades.

+ Drink enough water + Have enough sex= The secret.

+ Drink enough water + Have enough sex= The secret.

STUNNING INTERNAL ORGANS AND BONES OF THE DAY.

STUNNING INTERNAL ORGANS AND BONES OF THE DAY.

What Women Deserve, Sonya Renee Taylor. I am seeing it sparking debates on many pages.

It’s pretty surreal. I wrote that poem in 2008. Put it on youtube in 2010. One night I got drunk with my roommate and read all the youtube comments. My favorite was “If you would just close your clown car vagina, this kind of thing wouldn’t happen to you.” Two points for good visuals. It is so tragic that the dominant mentality is that this is a women’s promiscuity issue. It feels like we are fighting whether it is okay for women to breathe air. Like we have to spend money, time, resources etc. to fight something that should just be a basic human right. I think the men who conjure these bills up don’t really care one way or another about life (obvious from their fondness for war and capital punishment) they just want to infuriate the left and get them to pay attention to this instead of the disparity of wealth. Long answer to a short question. I am glad the poem has legs and is speaking to people. Glad beyond belief. I hate that it is still relevant.

My baby bought me a ukulele for my birthday!! Totally an honor. It was interesting how they didn’t mention it was a poem or that it was on youtube but was really cool to see it weaved into a story like this. Plus, Rep. Mike Reynolds looked like a total moron. “Most Oklahomans believe that life begins at conception. We can’t change the language to make an exception for rape.” Shudder. Ugh. NO. I don’t think most Oklahomans spend their day at work worrying about when life begins. They are just doing what they can to take care of the lives they have. The thing that upsets me so much is that this is apparently all they can come up with to do at work. They talk about the economy and wasteful government and then spend all this money drafting these ridiculous bills. The media then has to take up air time talking about it and we have to take time off of work to protest it and we all have to spend money campaigning for our side. Meanwhile, there are children in Oklahoma (like mine) that don’t have health care or textbooks for school. THERE ARE REAL PROBLEMS. MY UTERUS IS NOT YOUR PROBLEM.

Several mobilizations around this: Oklahomans Against Personhood Bill
